Might be a silly question, but prefer an extra level of cautiousness.

will attaching magnets behind the motherboard tray harm the motherboard and its components even after prolonged use? Say as an example sticking magnet held led strips along the motherboard tray, or are those types of magnets to weak to affect anything

It will be fine. There's nothing on a motherboard that would be negatively affected by some small, weak magnets near it.

Just dont get mechanical hard drives near them.

Defintely not. I've had my PC for a while and have several argb and fan controllers mounted with a magnetic strip behind my motherboard and I've never had any issues. If it was a strong magnet then maybe not...

PC's used to have a speaker inside case (magnet on them) for Bios warnings and dial up modem connecting sound.
