Mail going to Unread NOT Inbox

Running MS Outlook 2007. Vista HP 32bit.

When I get emails they ALL go into the Unread mAIl folder but can be seen as capacity number in the inbox. If I go into the inbox there is nothing there. But they are there in the Unread Mail. Does that make sense?

Question is of course why is this happening?

I had this on a fresh install of Office 2007/Outlook 2007 with my email being retrieved using IMAP/Gmail.

Didn't know what was causing it. Removing the account and adding it again resolved it but the problem cropped up again a few minutes later after a restart or two of Outlook. Seeing as re-adding the account worked the first time, I did it again and all has been ok since.

If anyone has an answer to HatMan's problem I'd be grateful too, in case it happens again.
