Mail in taskbar?

Was at work today and saw on someone elses PC that when they got an email they got a popup (as in msn) in the bottom right of the screen to say so, i couldnt really see but it appeard that they diddnt have a mail programme open.... is there anyway to minimise to the taskbar like in itunes if i use windows mail or outlook?

I use Thunderbird and have the Minimize to try addon installed. This allows you to press the 'X' close button and instead of closoing it puts it in the tray so if an email comes in then a popup is created!

I use poptray, its free and even tho its quite old, it runs fine in vista and win7.. I have it set to check every 20mins, and I double click on it to open up my email prog (thunderbird)

I use outlook which checks all my accounts every 2 minutes and displays the envelope icon in the systray when there is new unread mail.

You can have multiple accounts in poptray too
