Just found this
1) Get yourself an gmail account and configure the iphone to collect you gmail email.
2) now the clever bit .. forward you hotmail to your gmail account .. easy? not so .. hotmail will only let you forward a paid account to a none hotmail email address .. so you have to first sign up for mobile alerts for your hotmail account (its free but 20pence a text) ... this will then allow you to forward your hotmail to any address .. then you can go back into your mobile alerts settings and change it so that it doesnt send any sms's to your phone which means you dont pay a penny
Only one small problem and thats the return address ... when i reply from my phone it still has a return address of gmail rather than hotmail .. just playing with that to try and work out why
okay .. to get it to look like you replied from hotmail rather than gmail you need to do the following ...
On the iPhone, go to Settings and then Mail. Delete any previous attempts you've made to make a Hotmail account -- these can cause problems with the new account you create. Create a new email account by clicking Add Account. On the next screen, choose Other (don't pick Gmail). Here are the settings:
Name: Your Name
Address: Your current hotmail.com email address
Description: (can be anything) "hotmail"
Incoming Mail Server:
HostName: imap.gmail.com
UserName:
[email protected]
Password: the password for this gmail account
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
UserName:
[email protected]
Password: the password for this gmail account
All other settings should match the defaults.
