I like wine. I know a little bit about wine, but I don't have the time to go round the specialist wine shops in Glasgow stocking up. Therefore, I want to explore mail order wine shops.

The wines I like:

Rioja, Chablis, Burgandy, Beaujolais, Medoc, Margaux, yadda yadda.

I imagine I'd like to go for mixed cases rather than just get 12 bottles of the one wine but basically I'm looking to make my money go as far as possible. How much do I want to spend? Wouldn't want to go over £120 a case.

The Spectator Wine Club seem to have some quite good wines and very good prices.
My friend buys from Laithwaites and I've had some terrible wines from cases he's had delivered.
BBR seem good, but probably more than I want to spend.

So, I ask you OcUK. Where should I buy my wine from?

On a side note, would there be any interest in having a OcUK wine club? Get the same bottle, and sample/talk about it?

Whilst not a wine club, Majestic is a decent retailer and will usually deliver for free. You choose your own but if you know what you like then just order a few bottles of various types and compare your notes to others online.

As for the wine club i'd be all over that.

I have used these guys a few times, was very impressed but then they are one of the few wine dealers that stock a particular wine I enjoy. Fixed delivery charge I remember no matter how many boxes/bottles you buy.....so bought a case of my favou.rite and tried 6 new wines

The "wines" you like, you have listed a Châteaux and wine regions.

Chablis is a region in Burgundy that predominately uses the Chardonnay grape yet you didn't mention if you like Chardonnay. :D

I buy most of my wine from a local merchant, over time they get to know what you like and can advise you accordingly.

I was going to suggest Virgin and the Wine Society, so I know they're both pretty good. The Wine Society are people my parents still use now.

I'd join in on the wines, if I could make it work! I'll send you samples back to the UK lol

The best way to get to know what you like is by trying stuff and being open minded about it. I like most (semi-decent) wine but a lot of it is situational - what am I doing, what am I eating, etc.. A wine that can offend massively on its own can be delightful with the right grub.

The Spectator Club is quite fun in that they rotatate around a handful of wine merchants (5) each month or so and offer wines from different places. N.B. I work for one of these companies. Iirc Simon tastes a number of wines from the merchant then chooses his favourites to list in that issue.

A wine club would be fun but it'd need to be readily available wines if lots of people want to take part. Count me in.

Old Coals - Margaux is an appelation in Bordeaux as well as being a 1er Cru Château and contains a number of more affordable wines such as d'Angludet.

That's a nitpicking fail right there... Margaux is an appellation as well as a first growth. Wine regions yes but also wines.

I always use BBR for my wine. You could try Justerini as well I guess.
