Not sure if anyone on here will be able to help me but thought I would give it a go!
To cut a long story short, I am helping a mate set up a Windows 2003 SBS (Small Business Edition) for a local small company and hes stuck on the Email side of things.
As its a SBS server then you get exchange bundled in with it and you can use the POP3 connector so that Email is downloaded from your host into peoples mailboxes and uses SMTP to send mail out.
As the POP3 connector has its own limitations, IE only checks for mail every 15 mins etc then he wants to link the domain direct to the exchange server and bypass the host/ISP.
We have set up an A-record for MAIL.DOMAINNAME.COM and then put that in as the MX record but not sure on what else needs to be done to get the mail to route direct into exchange? IE ports that need to be open on firewall, just 25 for SMTP? And also how is exchange configured to deal with incoming Email requests etc... ?
On top of getting this going I will need good spam/virus/malware filter software or something, any recommendations?
If anyone has any knowledge on this and can just verify the steps to get this done securely then that would be great, in the meantime im going to get my Google on...
Thanks for any help
