Mail searching in Lion

I'm using the standard Apple Mail app and when I enter something into the search box it filters the displayed messages accordingly.

But, for some reason it only shows messages from 2011. Anything older doesn't get displayed.

I've looked all over for some setting to restrict searches but drawn a blank.

On another Mac the search works properly regardless of the age of the message.

Any ideas appreciated !

Sounds like a bit of a weird glitch to me, you could try deleting the pref files for mail, but this will mean you'll have to enter the account details again. Perhaps try a new user account and set up mail again, see how it performs there?
