Mail Server Software?

Hi guys,

what would be the best concise/streamlined mail server solution so that 5 computers (mix of XP/Vista) can all use a shared mailbox and shared contacts? don't want to set up a whole new machine would just like it installed on one of them that will stay on and that the rest can access...

the more basic the better i think, no need for any fancy features just shared inbox/outbox and contacts

Not sure about contacts tbh. You could look at hosted exchange?

go with hmail, it's a good piece of software and the blokes on the forum are really helpful

hmail for a low key server. Its free, interface is very nice and never really had a problem with it (Well other than Vista occasionally decides it's not allowed to access the database and you have to reinstall! but there are backup options etc)

If you want something for higher load (thousands of emails a day) Mdaemon is probably a nice mix between performance/usability/scalability. (But costly).

had a look at hmail but it doesnt support contact sharing... mdaemon seems like overkill, but what about microsoft exchange server, that supports contact sharing is that any good?

If you want exchange and some server stuff you'd be better off purchasing Microsoft Small Business Server 2003.
