Mail WHY?

As a Gmail user what is the benefit of using Mail rather than just logging on to Gmail?

Sorry, probably a dumb question but I just don't understand the point of Mail !

It's a client theres no benefit to be honest except more customisation in mail.

I use Outlook 2011 for Mac as I like the layout much better than GMAIL/MAIL.

I started using Mail due to having an offline copy of my email, which is in turn backed up by Time Machine. Just in case.

It was about the time I was reading articles like this.

Are you using Mail as a POP account or Imap? I love the Exchange side of it too when connecting to exchange mail boxes. I think Gmail can be used as an exchange setting now if you point it to m.google.com.

The thing is, with Gmail been free I wouldn't dare keep important emails and documents where it's free.
