The persom to whom i'm selling my current setup would prefer me to leave the HSF on, if i package a box well enough, do you think it will be safe?

It's quite a risk to take imo - especially if it's a big tower type HSF, but if you get sufficient insurance and it's well enough wrapped... fingers crossed!

I just think that however well it's wrapped it'll still suffer from vibrations etc during transit which could make it part company from it's mount... You've only got to look at OcUK's bundles - they don't ship with HSF installed and they must be working from experience!

If I were you then I'd make the purchaser aware that if you send with it attached that it cannot be guaranteed to arrive in undamaged condition, and make sure that you get your precious parcel covered by sufficient insurance.

I you do keep it on i have sent and received some fragile items by UPS and i believe if you choose express delivery they put the Item in a separate box and everytime i have received it the box is in immaculate condition along with other parcels also there tracking is amazing. Surely they must be some sort of Courier that does a special fragile option?

Or if he is that desperate make him come and get it:)

What about arranging to meet up or one of you picks it up drops it off sort of thing.

I would never trust any courier to deliver that without it being lobbed about only thing you can do is make sure it is covered with insurance but even then its hassle if you have to put in a claim.

It's simply not worth the risk imo. Any courier could drop the box, then you can have some serious problems if it's heavy and attached. I move my PC up to 6 times a year on a 2-4hr journey, and I always make sure the motherboard is laid down with heatsink pointing up, and even then it's risky, so I pad it out underneath to absorb most vibrations.

Totally agree. A couple of horror stories for you....
I work across the road from the local citylink depot and have seen many cringeworthy moments, once they were moving a couple of very large flat screen tvs across the depot on a sack truck. The tvs fell over and smacked into the floor with a bang that I heard from where I was. The guy picked them up as if nothing had happened and just carried on.
I used to work for a well known courier many years ago and believe me, NO parcel was shown any care or respect by anybody. If a package said "Fragile", it was more of a reason to treat it roughly.
Take it in person or go totally over the top with your packaging. Surely the guy can fit the HSF himself anyway. They're not that difficult.
Just my two bob's worth ;)
