Mailmerge - Keep formatting

I'm using excel and word 2010, and I'm trying to do a mailmerge. I've painstakingly set all the formatting in the excel spreasheet, but when I do the mailmerge, the formatting all changes to whatever the merge field is set as. Is there a way to change this?

save your formatting as a normal.dot file, at least i think thats the name then tell word to use it as default. should sort things out.

there MSword macro enabled templates have a google if you havent used them before

I've done it now, but my problem was more keeping subscripts and font sizes in chemical formulas so I don't think that would have helped :/
