Has a spare disk and went to give 8.10 ago and works until I install nvidia drivers, then it stops working problem with screens, this doesnt happen in 8.04

So am I missing anything by not using 8.10?

I have also tried Mint similar issue, Fedora doesn;t even start to install

There are some newer versions of some common programs. There's a different version of X which has poorer driver support. 8.04 is a long-term release. Keep on using it. :)

Urm the nimbers different too....

I think they improved the wirless stuff too which was a nice plus :)

Would recommend 8.04 though as this nvidia thing sounds pretty bad (from what iv read, for once my ati stuff has a good moment)

Primarily XOrg and Gnome 2.24.

Either I've missed something but nVidia drivers seem to work fine (did they release a version supporting the new Xorg release?) on my 64bit Ubuntu 8.10 box.

As said though, stick to 8.04 for LTS :)

Stay away from 8.10 as fast as you can. I'm an old hand linux guy, and I had to revert to 8.04 too on two machines. The latest 8.10 kernels don't even /boot/ my work Dell bog-standard workstation, and the uptime you get are ridiculous. I don't know exactly what they did to get to that stage, but it's the first time in more than 10 years I have to downgrade on a linux distro... and I'm the guy who used to compile his own KDE from CVS.
