I need a little advice with regards to what cpu & mobo combination to go for basically go for the better cpu & lesser mobo or better mobo & lesser cpu & clock it; Cost will be very similar if u take in the cost of the diff cpu & board.

The kit I have been thinking of is listed below:

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz
Asus P5NSLI nForce 570 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

total cost £311.35

Thought of this setup due to the fact its a better cpu with more cache on the chip & the mobo will support SLI, ok it doesnt clock aswell but its the better cpu & wasnt really bothered about clocking it.

OR

Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz
Asus P5B Deluxe (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

This can be clocked up to run at the same speed as the E6600, costs roughly the same when all added up though so what would the benefit be?

Total Cost £305.48

The P5B Deluxe is a great clocking board. That's what I would go for.

The e6400 will clock well on this board to 3.0-3.4Ghz easily...

...The e6600 will overclock well also... but if your going to be on air cooling, than you'll only be able to hit around 3.2-3.4Ghz with safe temps.

cheers, just thought being nforce it would have been better, like the asus boards anyway but intel cpu & intel chipset :D been a while for the intel so wanna go back as I dont like amd much now, mind I said this last time prior to upgrading. What a bugger eh U upgrade to an x2 & never checked what intel was doing prior to doing it. Well stopping smoking means a better pc ;)

other choices were

Get the wife some flowers :D um cheapo asda ones £5
or have a holiday in mexico for a week (me paying!)

think the £5 flowers have won
