Major CPU Heat Problem

Hi all,

I have just made a rather worrying discovery. I decided to check my BIOS on the off chance just to see how hot my Intel P4 2.8GHz HT was running. The rated temprature: 127 Degrees Celsius!!!

This is very worrying, but when I come to think about it I have had no system shutdowns, slowdowns, corruption or BSODs. I have just recently upgraded motherboard to an Abit FP-IN9 SLi board about a month ago, and fitted a Thermaltake Big Typooon 120 cooler on with it. My case is a Thermaltake Xaser III with 7 exhaust fans, 2 of them right by the CPU. The cooler is properly fitted and thermal paste properly applied.

The shutdown temprature in the BIOS is set to 80 degrees celsius, and it hasn't actually shut down yet. I'm wondering is this likely to be an error or is it really that hot? Would I notice a severe lapse in performance is this was true?

Thanks.
