8800GS in x64 XP using the 177.35 CUDA drivers. Graphics card is not overclocked and is in a dedicated folder alongside 4 linuxSMP VMWare'd clients. The SMP clients are not causing this issue.

Firstly I can't manually start the GPU client. Trying to do so results in a 'your card isn't supported' error message popping up. But the client starts fine by itself on reboot.

Anyway that's not really important. However this is -

I start the machine and the GPU client happily crunches through a unit, completes it and uploads it to the server. Happy daze. Except every single new unit downloaded EUE's immediately upon starting with a 'mdrun_gpu returned -1' error. This goes on until the client stops with the daily EUE limit exceeded try again in 24 hours message. Since I can't restart the client anyway (see the very first point) I have to reboot the computer. Once back into Windows the client starts automatically, downloads a WU and works perfectly until it has finished and uploaded that WU. Then the EUE's start again. I reboot etc etc etc.

Anyone else come across this? I can't keep rebooting the machine every 2.5 hours.

One thing I've noticed is that the core and the work folder have been saved to the hidden APP Data folder. In x64 Vista they are saved in the standard Program Files folder.

Odd. Tried reinstalling the drivers? Or possibly a privilege issue - is the client running with administrative privileges? All I can think of ATM.

Tried all that a couple of times. However it was via RDC. I've just hooked up a keyboard and monitor and reinstalled it all again to see if it makes any difference.

RDC = remote desktop? I think that may be the problem. I'm sure I read somewhere that the client and remote desktop will not work together. Don't know why.

I've seen this issue mentioned about RDC as well on the FAH forums. The suggestion was to use VNC instead.

Switching to VNC did the trick. The client just finished one unit and started another without any issues.
