Major hassles loading up webpages

Anyone got any ideas as to why webpages are sometimes taking ages to load up, loading up incorrectly (messed up html shows instead of the page), other errors on page, single graphic/icon loading instead of page, or just refusing to load at all. Its driving me nuts. I am wearing out my F5 button having to refresh 10 times for each page. Not all websites are giving me trouble. Overclockers site and forums for expample tend to load ok-ish (this page is still "transferring data from forums.overclockers.co.uk" and has been for the entire time i've been writing this).

I'm on a wireless network, Cisco modem, VM ISP (2mb BB), linksys WRT45GL + tomato, and the others on this network don't seem to have a problem.
I have just made a major upgrade with new mobo, ram, CPU, and GFX but still (for the moment) using the original install of windows and all its original programs. Browser is Mozilla FF (v.2.0.0.14). Everything else in windows seems to be working ok, but it is possible that all the new hardware is playing havoc with web browsing?

p.s. (page is still "transferring data...")

Is it the same in IE?

seems to be. page errors aren't as bad, but its very very slow and won't load some pages at all.

even having trouble accessing the router's OS.
also, if i click on a link i sometimes get a popup that asks what I want to do (save, open etc?) with the .php file that i have chosen to open rather than the browser actually loading the link, but this has been happening for ages even with my original hardware.

p.s. signal strength is 100%, and it was just as bad when i was cable connected to the router.

Think it worked OK when the desktop was plugged straight in, but can't remember for sure. Anyway, now have a fresh install of XP, and it all seems to be working fine, so i guess it was something to do with Windows (strange though that the rest of the PC seemed fine). Only thing now to consider is whether i put SP3 on, or leave it as SP2?

cheers for your inputs
