Major Nelson to stop reporting on Live status

Speaking in his latest podcast, Microsoft's Major Nelson has stated that "as a lawyer has decided to sue the company", there is litigation and once that happens he can no longer comment on the status of Xbox Live. He did apologize for this issue. The latest podcast is available to listen to at his usual home of Majornelson.com.

No, I think someones trying to sue Microsoft over the Xbox Live issues, so stupid really.

Because of this, microsoft wont release any details whatsoever on the outrage of servers.
wonder if they'll still give us something now :/

Three Texas residents filed a lawsuit Friday on behalf of themselves and others who have had trouble connecting to Xbox Live in recent weeks.

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Houston, claims Microsoft's outages represent a breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation for which the software maker is liable. The suit doesn't claim specific damages, but notes the amount is in excess of $5 million.
In the suit, the plaintiffs allege that Microsoft should have known strong holiday sales would tax its servers. "Microsoft knew the increase in subscriptions would increase game-play on its servers, yet failed to provide adequate access and service to Xbox Live and its subscribers."

What a load of old poop!

Edit: Might want to get the thread title changed, Major Nelson isn't suing anyone.

While Americans tend to sue for the most stupid things, I have to agree that Microsoft should have anticipated the increased usage of Live over the holiday period.

We have to pay Microsoft for the usage of Live and were are entitled to think it should work as expected for the vast majority of the time. I haven't played any games on live for a while but there have been times trying to play COD4 for example has been impossible which went on for weeks on end during the holidays.

While the $5m+ figure is a bit stupid I think Microsoft wouldn't be wrong to give out everyone a free month of Live Gold.

I was away over Xmas so I didn't get to play online.
However, as an XBL subscriber I think I am entitled to my share of that 5 million.
As they intend to act for 'others' I don't think any of you would mind me staking my claim? :D

you have just said it yourself "it should work as expected for the vast majority of the time."

it does, 3-4 weeks downtime out of 52 is pretty good is it not?

yes it was very annoying, i was also affected as i could not play COD4, or even log onto live.

but all is good again, sorted, we are all getting a game that to me is enough.

if they do win and get that $5million, then that will be $5million less to spend on development, so we lose out there.

no need to sue imo

Seems like a petulant thing to do, especially considering the scale of Live.

"Oh noes I couldn't play my internet games for a bit!"
