hi everyone,

ok .. ill list the specs and symptoms best i can to make things easyer:

q6600 stock
corsair h50 cooling.
2x2gb corsair dominator something something 1066 stuff
Asus p5n32e-Sli
8800gts 320mb
antec 550w psu
2x500gb samsung spinpoints

ok now the symptoms..

at first i thought there was a hard drive fault .. as the system seemed to hang ... but its more a case of windows taking ages to load up ( while still being active) and then when i try to open anything or right click.. it seems to pause for up to 5 mins then do it ... simply put it felt like anything in ram was running at full speed but anything accessing the hdd responded very slow.

but when i transfered some data from the disk after thinking it went at full speed.

so i checked the disk ... a lot ... windows full check , then samsungs own hard disk check thing .. full surface scan .. comes up with nothing .. so i reinstall.

things seem fine until i boot it up just now and i get bios error checksum something ..

i turn off .. i turn back on (it never gets old as a problem fixer) the system boots but with bios defaults .. so i let it , and after the "safe mode or not" screen windows loads...

things seem fine until it slows down .. a lot .. then hangs.. then blue screens , page fault in non page area..

now it wont boot into windows.

im starting to think maybe its the motherboard, its cooled very well with the h50 .. which i cant advertise enough ..

my question is ... withought geting a whole other pc (which i dont have access to ) to fault find ... is there any other way to make sure its just the mobo so i can take it out ... stomp on it in a rage and put in a new one?

so .. please ideas thoughts tests ... i need to get this thing back working...

I can stretch to get a new mobo .. but if it can be avoided it would be better

righty.. over to u , thanks in advance for any help btw

Which OS?
Run memtest?
Checked event viewer for errors at times of problems?
Configured bios correctly for memory timings, voltage etc?

Just a few I thought of.

sorry yes ... os is vista 64 ultimate

memtest run no probs

i cant find any errors before the crashes on event viewer

and ive tried both stock settings and my own settings for bios.. both do the same thing

thanks for the reply tho

Have you checked the SATA cable?
I suspect the cable might be a problem.

U might also wanna try another SATA port if the current one on the mobo would have gone bad.

Also,

Try logging in safe mode if possible, do a restore a few days back.

Remove any overclocks if you have any.

Final case, take everything apart and rebuild the system step by step and check the bios faults.

ok .. safe mode has the same problem

sata cable changed to no effect.

ive tried running stock and default and my own settings .. all seem to do the same.

ive now taken it apart and put it back together testing as i went, it seems the bios may be a bit.. unstable, is it worth me flashing it again? or to leave it be as it may prove risky?

also if it turns out it is a mobo problem , ive been surgested the p45 chipset would be nice for my quad, any surgestion for brands? asus has disapointed me and my last other brand was an abit .. but it was also on a tbred 2200

Think ive cracked it , the memory was running very hot , ive opened the case and bodged a fan over the top , system now seems very stable...

strange strange stuff
