Ok - got a major issue here...was installing Ubuntu the other day on the new pc (Asus Striker Extreme mobo, 3ghz dual core, 8800gtx card - dual booting on XP) and when I reset it it hanged. Powered it down, tried again and the monitor would not move from standby mode. Today I tried an older graphics card - same result - tried an alternate mobo slot on both - same thing - even a spare sata drive - when that failed I took the pc upstairs and attached to the monitor for this pc - which works - and still the same. I then stripped it down and went through the whole one hdd and one stick of ram - still nothing. This pc has been nothing but trouble since I got it a few months ago - I've gone through 2 mobo's, had to get another cpu and now this - does ANYONE have any thoughts because right now I'm about fit to cry over this.

Take your whole pc apart, lay all the componants on a static mat or clean surface and put the componants in one by one. Do you have any extra componants you can try in replace of your current ones?

Power supply issue? A bad PSU could cause anything from random lock-ups and crashing to damaged hardware.

Sadly I have no other components I can use - no extra ram and certainly no other psu or 3rd graphics card. I'm going to try and take the system into a local shop and see what they think but right now I'm so tired and drained from trying to sort this out today I haven't got the energy to totally strip it down tonight. But if anyone else has any other suggestions please feel free to voice them.

And thanks for the prompt reply guys.
