Hi

Our computer is basically locking down on us saying it is non genuine. The software is a Genuine Microsoft Windows 7 64bit version bought from Microsoft. But it is saying in the bottom left corner: Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of windows is not genuine. It has prevented any use of the characters on the keyboard, made the mouse curser flash and has stopped all antivirus and firewall software and prevented internet use.

We have been using this computer for 4 months with no issues and now suddenly it does this.
I have done a lot of searching and seems people have problems but they have been cured because the computer still runs, ours is almost non functional. Does anyone have any suggestions, it is impossible to get hold of microsoft to someone who understands.
Thanks
Will

That is the "beta" version that you have - not the fully retail product.

I would speak to who ever you "bought it" from and deal with it. It is not a full retail version

Build 7600 was the "beta" test version and from 1st March 2010, it was going to be semi functional but shutdown ever 2 hours or something.

The software is Windows 7 Professional 64bit according to what I was sold in December 2009. It was part of a student offer from microsoft.
The computer is sort of unusable at the moment so not sure what to try next.

Next, you contact where you bought it from, and you ask why they didn't install a win7 professional copy as they had stated on the sales form.

Allow them to remedy the matter first, if they don't then trading standards, or similar would be the next port of call. You can always hit them up in the small claims court too, apply online and invite them to defend themselves, but do give them the opportunity to resolve the issue themsevles.

Was it a major retailer, ebay, or the back of a lorry you bought from?
