Major problem!!

Hey guys,

Right so my system was quite dusty inside so i stripped it down,Gave the case a good clean, the fans & heat sink..re-applied Thermal paste etc the usual when putting it back altogether like i usually do.
But now it wont start...triple checked all cables are plugged in to their places and nothing, fans don't spin...no sighs of life at all.

I thought maybe i done something to my PSU,So i took out my GFX Card..sound card etc and tried to see if the system would show any signs of life using a spare PSU i have (Gigabyte SuperB 400W) but still nothing.

Could i have killed my motherboard?

It cant be the PSU because i tried another that i know works.

I'm out of ideas...:p

Appreciate any help. :)

Double check the PSU's by doing the paper clip trick (Google it)

100% positive the keetle lead is fine?

Wont be attempting that paper clip trick...probably end up blowing myself up or something. :D

Just tried the kettle lead from my monitor and still nothing...urghh! :(

Is there any signs of life? does the CPU try a spin? any lights on the board etc.

Nothing..no fans spin,No lights,PSU does not fire up....its all dead like its unplugged from the wall socket.

Will take everything out tommorow and try it out the case,But ive never had this issue before when cleaning the computer,Guess i just got unlucky this time.

Yeah,Come across that earlier....Would like to see if i can get a better spec board though with at least 8x on the second Pci-e as i do plan on going Xfire in the future...of course with a PSU upgrade, but for now just need my system working again.

Its not a major loss though,I mean i only paid around £42 for my current board as it was a refurb...and to be honest for some reason it never did hold my Cmos settings if i unplugged it at the wall, even though i gave it a new Cmos battery so the board could have still been faulty for all i know. ;)

Will wait to see if i get anything pop up in the Wanted section.

cheers.;)

Tried a different wall socket or without surge protector, if you are using one?

Yeah tried a diffrent socket,Im running it on a Surge protected Extension lead...but thats okay because my monitor and everything else is working...just not my system unit since the clean....im thinking i just zapped it with static or something...if i have my own fault for not wearing anti-static band but never neaded one before. ;)

I just hope my CPU is alright. :(

Right i seem to have made some progress.

Taken everything out of the case,Set it all up on my desk caseless...switched it on and i get power...fans run,PSU runs, gfx card runs....But i get nothing show up on the screen and its as if the computer keeps restarting aswell because when i start it the gpu fan spins normal...then the GFX cards noise increases and goes back to normal speed... then over again and over again in like a loop...

you know the sound when you first start the computer and gpu fan speed is high then slows down to idle speed?....like that.

Try blowing out all of the connectors, i cleaned my case once and got dust in my mobo 4 pin and 24 pin connectors and it would try to start and shut off, funny how once you disconnected everything and put it together on your desk it seems to try to start now, sound's like a connection issue to me, keep me posted :)

Had a look inside the 24 pin & Cpu power connectors on both the board & PSU and cant see any fluffy dust pieces or anything,Gave it a good blow (hey hey)...but no still the same.

I'm also interested in what the problem is, been following this. At least it sounds like you're on the right track now :)

Yeah im just lost to what the problem is,I know its not my PSU because im using it right now on this spare machine i have with no issues,so i can only assume it has to be the motherboard...im really hoping my CPU isnt dead but wont find out until i get a replacement board.
If my CPU is dead then looks like il just have to get the wallet out and upgrade which i did not want to do just yet as i was going to wait for Ivy bridge then get the latest boards etc.

Right guys,

Recieved another 1156 board today which i got from the MM on here,
(Asus P7H55-M/USB3

Installed my i7 860,cooler...2 sticks of ram and my 6950...tried starting it up..everythings running,Cpu fan..gfx card fans etc...now to try and get it running with everything installed!

This system is really getting on my **** now,After trying it all out of the case first with my new board everything worked fine, powers up and shows stuff on screen etc so i thought great lets get it all back in the case...got it all back in the case,go to fire it up and fans spin for less than a second then nothing...same over again when i press the power button!

So i thought must be a bloody short somewhere but i cant see how....so out comes the board again and i look on the mobo tray...nothing there to short it at all...im not understanding why when i put it in the case it does not run!

i have now took it back out the case and set it caseless on my desk, and it fires up fine,...still im baffled to why i cant run the system in the case...i think my case is cursed or something.

Right,Just put it all back in the case (again) and now its working,Currently installing windows 7.....not sure what was causing the problem just but the case switch seems to be fine..

Maybe id just knocked something out of place or something who knows,Lets just hope it carrys on been okay now. :D

Thanks for your help guys!
