Hi all, yesteday the following gear arrived for me.

Abit ip35 pro
conroe 6550
4 gigs of geil pc6400 (2x 2x1gig dual channel).
Corsair 620w
EVGA GTX
wd sata drive

Any way, the first thing i did was put the sata drive in my current computer and get it ready for dual booting XP on the c:\ and Vista64 on the D:\. No problems there, all sorted fairly quickly.

I then assembled my new gear (outside of the case, as it is now) and installed windows XP without a hassle. I then installed VISTA64 but got a BSOD...odd i thought, but i then reset and did the install again and had no problems.

Once the 2 OSs were installed, i started playing around on VISTA...and it was a painful experience. Lots of crashes and the odd BSOD. I put this down to vista 64 being poo and decided to concentrate on XP for a while, at least to install some games and stuff. But it was the same in XP - slow and sluggish. I should point out that i had tried some mild clocking as well - and it seemed stable running orthos at 3ghz (about 440 on the ram). I bumped the ram voltage up ever so slightly and the cpu as well.

By the way, during all this i was only using 2 GIGS OF RAM, not all 4.

Any way, i decided to format the drive again and to try once more, even if i didn't really have much hope of it working. But here's where the real problems start.

Most times the system won't even start properly. Ie i don't even get a post. Sometimes i do manage to post, get into the bios, change so the CD is the first boot device but when i resets it will either freeze on the post screen or not post at all. The mobo's error readouts seem to be sticking to memory related errors.

I've tried moving the memory to the other slots, and also i've tried the other sticks as well, but to no avail. Is the GEIL not compatible with this mobo?

Any way, just got home from work and managed to actually start the XP installation, but got a BSOD quite quickly. Really gutted about this. Also gutted that I doubt I’ll be able to get any corsair delivered until Monday. Any ideas guys???

Hehe sounds like the minor problems i was having when i first built my pc and installed XP and Vista. ;)

Most likely a Memory issue. Make sure you have manually set the Manufacturers stated Frequency, Timings and Voltages for your Memory. :)

Is it the geil the ultra low latency stuff, if so is it set to the correct voltage (2.1V I think is what it needs, maybe more if overclocked).

actually, i just noticed it does say 2.1 V on the chips themselves! And i think it's probably only set to like 1.8 in the bios. Thanks, i'll give that a shot. And the manual memory timings too. Thanks, will report back :)

edit: looking good so far, fingers crossed. Managed to get started on XP install with no probs.
