major stuttering while gaming and even using skype

Hi all, Im trying to figure out what might be causing this problem my brother is having, so basically for the past week at least hes been complaining of lag or stuttering while playing black ops zombies. its like when running it glitches for a millisecond and then carry's on, even the music does the same if he stands still, then tonight we noticed it before going into game its doing the same on skype.

everything on pc seems perfectly normal, i.e latest drivers, clean and defragged. no unnecessary services etc etc. it all seems fine but yet stil getting the stutter.

any ideas what could be the problem or where to look for?

More information could be good, such as the processor that he is using in his computer and the general spec of the PC. It sounds like it could be a lag issue with the internet but unless you have some more information for us we might not be able to help you.
 
we have just checked and it does it on single player with steam on offline mode so it doesnt suggest connection problem although he is on virgin! 60mb.

specs:
win7 64bit
amd athlon x2 250
4gb ram
500gb western digital aaks
ati 5770

not the most highest spec but has certainly ran the games perfectly in past, only recently has stuttering come about.
 
i would roll back the drivers or uninstall on your audio and video then reinstall them just to make sure it isn't a driver problem
