Make my Facebook Chat more stable!

My University computers are perfectly fine with it but my Dell Vostro struggles, it barely connects. I can send 1 or 2 messages and then it has to re-connect.

Is this just the internet connection in my student house being awful or is there something i have set-up that is restricting the access? Firewall type thingys?

Have you tried reinstalling Facebook?

Only tried IE but at every computer at University, it works okay and they use IE.

Imagine it's a connection problem rather than a browser problem.

Any chance you can try it on a different connection? Try updating NIC drivers, etc.

I have had something similar. In IE it loads the home page then straight away the IE collapses. If I try it in Firefox it loads fines but as soon as I go to scroll down the page that also collapses. Thought it may have been the antivirus / webguard (Avira) but unclicked the webguard button in the avira system but that made no difference.

This has always been browser-specific for me. Beta releases, particularly of Firefox, tend not to work. But I don't see why you'd have problems with IE.

I tend not to bother with FB chat for this very reason - give the people your MSN address and then use WLM or web messenger tbh

Have been trying various setting in the anti-virus (Avira AV9) the only other Ican think of is the 'block all IP packets' but cannot find where I can turn this off. Any sugestions most welcome. :confused:

The problem only showns on the home page, not on the personal page or on the instant messaging.
