Right have a Sapphire HD 4870 512Mb.

Finally got a mobo that does crossfire, now I game on a 1920 x 1200 monitor. So have been on the look out for another 4870 512, but that would only give me 1Gb combined memory.

Not sure if I should just get the same card and crossfire them or sell the 4870 512 and either get a 1Gb version, or a 4890 and wait for their prices to drop on them to then get a 2nd card for crossfire

Yer but I will most likely be looking at £300 cards rather than a £90 4870

Bearing in mind though that the latest cards will lower the price of the currents, also going by experience, ATi's latest cards aren't going to be near £300 for their single GPU cards.

They're sticking to the pile them high and sell them low method.

Chances are their latest 5XXX series should be around £150-£180 for their 5870 when it comes out.

That said, what ever card you get you'll still be stuck with only 512MB RAM if you crossfire anything with your current card.

You don't add up graphics RAM for dual GPU setups, you take the lowest amount of RAM, and that's what both GPUs will use from their own memory pools.

i've got two Sapphire 4870 512mb in crossfire and they're awsum. Very pleased with performance @ 1920x1080 (24" monitor)

check out my sig for the build log and pictures etc.

Cool cheers, might just keep my eyes peeled for a cheap 4870 512 suppose I can then sell them both next year and get a newer card then

2 Cards wont give you 1gb, you will still have 512 VRAM, just double the bandwidth.

But yer i'd wait for DX11 Cards, there so close i can smell them!

Dont know why people are so convinced the new cards are close, November or December for 5870s is what i have taken from all the reports/speculation. So i would say buy another 4870! The performance boost will keep u happy until it is time to move to the latest and greatest.

Damn, last I read was saying there would be a late September launch so they could be on the market prior to W7 :(
