Make your own Absinthe

And this is surprising because? I know many people abroad who brew & distill their own booze... hell one of my Italian relatives owns a vineyard makes wine and distills grappa!

Just a heads up, it is illegal in the UK to distil liquor without a licence. Not that anyone considering brewing pure absinth will care but I thought you should be warned lol

It's probably the 50ml that would make you go blind.

Going blind after drinking home distilled spirits is a bit of a myth. It's caused by drinking methanol. This will only happen if you happen to use it as your base alcohol initially which would be silly.
Main poisoning causes come from using lead based products in your still (think old engine parts and the like).

When we were leaving Prague we realised we had half a bottle of Absinthe left that we couldnt take on a plane. I couldnt even stand the site of the stuff as 5 of us had got smashed on half a bottle the night before and that was too much.

We gave the bottle to a tramp near the bus stop and he proceeded to down it. The sight of it nearly made me throw up!

No Methanol is produced in the distillation process but in very small amounts which is why on a small scale it doesn't really matter if it's removed or not however on a large scale they do have to go through the process of removing the methanol.

I think some types of grain do produce methanol, it has a slightly lower boiling point than ethanol so I guess the theory is that if there is any methanol it would boil first and then be in the first 50ml.

Indeed, I was simplyfying it. There is more methanol in beer & cider than there is in distilled spirits.
