I need to get a bootable image of Windows server 2008 32bit on DVD. I make createed an ISO using magic ISO from the main Server 08 dvd.

I then went into Magic ISO and selected New > Bootable DVD image > Ok. Then burned it

Before I pressed OK i could select Expert settings where you can turn on the kind of floppy emulation, hard drive emulation, load segement (which is on 7C0) and sector cound (which is on 1)

I put it in my dvd drive and it recognised that 1.82gb has been used up but when you look at the contents of the DVD there is nothing there.

How do I get Windows Server 2008 to be bootable?

Thanks

edit - Instead of bootable image, you can also select bootable floppy driver

It wont load in our server, apparently a common problem - so needs to be ran as a bootable ISO image. Its asking for flat files, so an image, but the disk doesnt contain one

+1

The OS discs from msdn are all bootable

Looking for a solution for a problem that doesn't exist!

1. Download ISO
2. Burn with imgburn

How to install Windows 2008 Server on smartstart 8.1. Seems like ive found the answer...

According to HP. Smartstart version 8.1 has a problem loading Server 2008. You should install Server 2008 from the CD and then load the HP Support Pack to install the drivers and such. One thing HP mentioned is that one problem with Smartstart 8.1 is if your server has 4GB of RAM, it will have problems. I don't know at this point if I were to remove some RAM if I would be able to install server 2008 with the Smartstart CD, and the HP rep didn't know either. Hope this post helps you guys out there.

so there was nothing wrong with the windows 2008 dvd? your first post is entirely misleading, makes you look like you haven't got a clue what you're on about and doesn't mention any of the details relevant to your problem. good going. :p

Ditch the HP Smart Start (you're on the wrong version for 2008 anyway). And just start off with the 2K8 disc in the server when booting.

Then add the smartstart stuff later, although I wouldn't bother.

I thought Smartstart is needed to set up a raid array?

If I just put the Windows 2008 disk in, then it would install to disk 1 and would not be able to stripe the data accross other disks

Yeah, when booting the server you'll have an option to enter the disk controller IO, can't remember what button it is you press but watch the POST and it should be obvious. Sort the RAID out there and then reboot.

Smartstart is just a fluffy way of configuring all this stuff using nice GUI but it's pap. If Windows Server 2008 is not in the OS list you are using the wrong version. Either way, flat file is correct, as you say. In fact IIRC, you just click next, next, next obviously entering the Licence Key and IP address and stuff.

I steer clear of it though. :)

The last HP server I dealt with was F2 for the RAID. Have to watch the POST like a hawk sometimes to spot the key!
