Hi all,

just in the process of making my son a new pc, he's got an AMD semrpon 1.6 ghz setup at mo (my son is 3 years old btw lol)

Basically wanting to make a new pc for him, just picked up a CELERON 2.6ghz CPU and a 478 mobo (Matsonic MS9127c)

was wondering if the old ram from the old pc will be ok onboard the new, its got 2 x 256mb pc 2100's. Will the 400w PSU be ok to use, no OC'ing on this rig.

Also wanting some advice on a cheap (second hand or not) graphics card AGP around 256mb.

Im a little lost with the older spec stuff thats about

Any advice is greatly apprecited.

Neal

lol - 12 amp rails.... i have no idea ?! lol its about 3 years old, and ran a 2ghz Athlon previously.

As for the graphics, about £30 i suppose, I will use it when the mrs throws me off mine!

i have another PSU but thats only a 350w and i wouldnt give to my worst enemy

was thinking along the lines of a Gfrce FX 5500 or 5800 has to be agp unfortunatley...

and to think i paid almost £100 for a fx 5500 yeas ago...

if you buy an fx 5* you won't be able to play anything.. even on lowest settings.. If you are on a budget, then there are newer cards that are available on AGP that you might get for a steal on the secondhand market.

ps - the FX5800 :) hehehe (ah the memories)

so im lookng for something a little newer than the ageing FX 5 series...

what about something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-109-AS&tool=3

My son only plays spongebob and a few other things, and i wont game on it all that often, but its nice to know it would be usable if needs be.

edit: im a moron, is a pci-e card doh

something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-163-SP

ps - the FX5800 hehehe (ah the memories)

lol yeah, it struggled with fs 2004 on a good day!!

Any reason why your swapping a Sempron 1.6ghz for a Celeron 2.6ghz as the sempron is faster.

The ATI 2400 would be a good upgrade and will play games like spongebob with high settings.

cool, only couple of quid over budget.

As for the PSU, its anyones guess i suppose, I know it supports P4's, but as for whats in the 12v rail, i dont know.

I'll find out soon enough though!

@ lee:

the sempron / mobo seems to be dying a death.
