Hi all,

my i7-2600k/16GB/290x is looking a bit long in the tooth, so it's being retired to be a workstation/music machine only. I need a new gaming machine.

This is going to be mostly for VR (I have a Vive), so of course I want the usual future-proof/expandable yada yada, really I'm just checking I haven't made a dumb mistake like got the wrong case or missed something I should have. Aside from gaming (on the Vive and some on a TV), it's going to just be used for watching movies, nothing too heavy.

As I've not specced a machine in some years I would appreciate your opinion on these components. Thanks!

Hi

The H440 doesn't have an optical drive bay so maybe change Windows to the USB version.

I would drop the ram down to 16GB (2 x 8GB). You shouldn't need more than that for a gaming pc.

The Intel 600p is meh. Might as well go with a regular SATA SSD such as the 850 EVO. If you want a real NVMe SSD then you would want to swap it for the 960 EVO.

I would wait for an aftermarket 1080 ti.

Also if you don't plan to SLI then you could drop down to the 550W/650W power supply.

You will need to ask customer services if the above options are not listed in the configurator and they should be able to make the changes.

This is exactly the reply I wanted, thank you!

Excellent point re the USB windows - I don't want an optical drive (I may buy an external one later), so I'll do that.

RAM is more expensive than I remember so I will indeed drop to 16GB

Going to check out the benchmarks of the NVMe and probably go for the EVO.

I have indeed already decided for an aftermarket 1080Ti (the Asus ROG Strix one), it wasn't on the picker yet :)

I will keep the PSU so I have the option to SLi without redoing the whole setup later.

Thank you!
