So i decided to make a unique present for my gf and at the same time do something i quite like doing, electronics and lights

Im half way through making a star map of her birth sign that should hang on the wall and can be turned off and on via a remote control as well as dimmed

progress so far

template of the constellation stuck on the back of some 5mm black foam board mounted in a wooden picture frame

lighthouse leds wired in parallel

and suck into the stars that make up the stars of the the actual star sign. they are wired up to an IR led controller connected to a 3A AC>DC transformer..the ir controller will eventually be my harmony 1100

the front of the build off

and on with a terrible phone pic

i still have to obtain a fibre optic xmas tree, strip out the fibre optic part and use this for the little stars

all the leds are cold white to give that real star look

Thats awesome.

Hmm I'm tempted to do this to my ceiling now, paint it black and use LED's to light my room in constellations. Use a variable voltage supply to control brightness, a LM317 would be enough.

you can buy kits for it, google 'led star ceiling'

Remind me, which birth sign was shaped like a colon and sphincter again?

i have seen similar before, im finding it had to decide what sort of fibre optic setup to use for the minor stars, the one above has actually made it but i was going to just go for a fibre optic ufo lamp/xmas tree where the fibres are already bound

im also only making the star sign bright, im not that keen on the background pic of the one above

the star sign is pices,, not a saggyarse :p

does anyone have any ideas as if it would be a good idea to stretch some material over the frame? some sort of black canvas? to make the whole thing seamless
