Hey,

I'm thinking of making a bit of an income from my photography and really need a website before i give this a go. The thing is i've never made one before and i have no idea where to start. I don't know any HTML code or anything like that, but i'd quite like to make my own instead of pay someone else lots to do it.

where is the best place for me to start?

thanks
Charlie

You probably want to be looking for some sort of CMS or gallery software if you're after displaying photos easily.

i've got access to dreamweaver CS4, so i might see if i can manage to use that... i've taught myself to use photoshop very well so i'm hoping i can manage to do the same with dreamweaver...

Red bubble looks like another Flickr...is it different and if so how?

Just create your site in photoshop or even better fireworks.

Make an image of your site in photoshop and slice it up, add links, editable regions etc.. and that's almost it.

Search fireworks on youtube.

Could try a content management system as these sort out navigation and don't actually require any coding.

My favourite is Drupal. But you will need to do some reading to understand them a bit, but they offer a lot of power for a low time-investment.

i need to see if i can find out about these programs...a quick search found me drupal. I might be able to get hold of fireworks...not sure yet.

What about a flash builder...are they more or less complicated than HTML?

go with something php based for cms - something like cussy CMS for content management.

p.s the new dreamweaver integrated with photoshop very well

Get webhosting and install wordpress. Enough said, it's the best blog/mini site/gallery/CMS ever. I use it on nearly all my sites.

if you are thinking of making an income from selling your photography work why don't you want to pay for someone to make a site? imo you'd get a lot more success then using a standard wordpress plugins and templates.
