Something like this of a product.

How do they actually do it?! Like at 2:45, a solid black background whilst having the watch move back.

Is it all light trickery, computer trickery, depth trickery?

I would love to be able to make a video like that of a product that close, but I think I lack the skills :p

Any places where I can scratch up on some homework?

Heres another one, just so consistent!

A lot of product videos now are CGI based purely because they can make them look perfect.

Although it just comes down to proper planning and lighting.

Just experiment and learn from trial and error :)

It's a combination of 3D animation and clever control of the camera and product.

I'm not 100% that this was the same VFX House that did the video you posted, but given that they did very similar work for Rolex in the past, I would imagine the Ad Agency did use them again.
