making b+w images

hi,

is it possible to make colour images black and white using html?

my mate gave me

Code:

<img src="" style="filter:xray()">

but that isnt really black and white

hope you can do it, will make it easier than changing the actual images

This is only supported in IE and a really horrible way to do things, FYI.

i know that only works in ie and looks rubbish :/ thats why im not using it.....

Could be done by putting a alpha transparent PNG over the top of the image, although that would require a hack to work in IE
