Can anyone suggest an alternative application to Adobe Acrobat that will allow me to reduce the thickness of drawing lines in a pdf file prior to printing.
Adobe Acrobat does allow me to do this using “Print Production” -> “Fix Hairlines” but it is very expensive.

Thanks

What is it you are working in to produce the pdfs?

In my experience, the majority of fine lines you occasionally get are caused by flattened transparencies in print ready pdfs. The lines display on the screen but not when you print them.

Thank you for your reply.
I'm not producing the pdf's they are cad drawings given to me in pdf format, the lines on some pdfs are too thick to see any detail when printing.

Oh I see.

so it's the actual drawn lines that you want to reduce, sorry, I thought you meant it was the fine hairlines that you get between objects which are caused by flattening of transparency.

Reducing the thickness of lines is a whole different thing, as you say, the fix hairlines tool would work but as for alternatives, not sure I can help other than to suggest looking at other pdf editors to see if they can do the same but might cost less than acrobat, but as to which ones are any good I'm afraid I can't help as I use acrobat.

I have tried quite a few other editors to see if they have the “Fix Hairlines” feature but I haven’t been lucky enough to come across one that does.

Which version of Acrobat are you using and if you don’t mind me asking how much did it cost?
