I live in shared accomodation and have my 2nd PC in the living room for general use. However, there are folders and files that I would like to make private to stop other housemates being nosey. Any suggestions as to good cheap or free programs that I can get to password folders and their contents? I don't mind other people using my PC but I want to keep some privacy on there.

Right click on your My Documents folder in Documents and Settings and then click Sharing and click Make this folder private.

Should be similar in Vista.

i cant create limited accounts as they have to download and install various software
unfortunately.

You can hide them by putting a $ in the beginning or end of the folder name.
Windows explorer wont show it but other file managers will, not the best solution but should stop any none savy pc user from getting to the share.
