Anyone any tips for making cash in Oblivion?

I've only had the game a few days and am loving it, raided a few caves and made a fair bit of cash, but need another 4000 gold for a house.

Buy a cheap house for now just for storage.

Money is hard to come by early on, but as you progress you will start finding more money, more valuable items and more valuable weapons.

By the time I was done with the game I'd got to the point where I had to enter caves carrying only the essentials as I knew I'd end up having to leave stuff that I wanted to take otherwise.

You need more than the price of the house to set up a home, paying for the house gets you 4 walls, a roof and not much else.

You have to pay for the furnishings separate, which is expensive in the higher priced houses.

Thanks to you mate thats how i've made all my money so far, just need something to do in-between resets :D

Speak to the count in Leywain and he will offer you 100 gold for each black bow you bring him. Funnily enough the black bow bandits are in Rockmilk Cave :) You can normally find 15+ black bows in their so that's 1500 extra on top of what you sell per visit. I think you have to do a quest or two for him before he tells you about the black bow bandits and offers you the money per bow?

Fighting in the Arena is OK for money although you'll only get small amounts until you become more advanced. As champion you'll get over 1000 gold per win, but you can only fight once a week :-/

w00t! I am now Grand Champion of the Arena, made a ton of money so now I don't know which house to buy lol.

Also done the quest so that I get 100g for each Black Bow.

Thanks again mate :)

buy the haunted house in anvil for about 5000 ,looks a bit rundown but do the mission thats attached to it, the curse gets lifted ,and the mansion goes back to its former glory

Potions potions potions...

FInd and collect everything you find to make potions, whether it be stuff growing about of stuff from mages guilds once you are a member, then make potions, and sell them, can be really easy money :)

That and caves, and the betting at the arena or fighting there. I did try to nick the guys gold at night, but got caught, think I need better chameleon spells :p

As Bossy papa said. The house in Anvil actually works out as the cheapest house. You have to purchase the deed to a house and then buy upgrades inside to get furniture etc. The Anvil house instead has a quest linked to it and when completed the house is restored and fully furnished.

Fighters guild quests i found were the best for cash. They are all mostly goto cave/ruin and find item/kill loads of badguys. So either way you come back with gold or items to sell.

Level.

Play normally, advance and you'll soon be swimming in wealth.

As you level up you're enemies loot tables will get better and better. Invest in some good strength gear and potions (also feather stuff) and after a dungeon go back and forward selling everything of value.

By the end of the game I had such a ridiculous amount of wealth I hardly even checked non-boss enemies for loot.
