I was wondering what the best way might be to utilise my photography hobby in a more sociable way?

what sort of thing should i be looking for?
Club?
classes?
something else?

im fairly new to wear i live and seriously lacking in socialisation!

Im not really sure of what might be around?

Have a look at the Talkphotography forums, they have a section for community and in there is a meeting place with google maps.

There will probably be a camera club in your area but if it's anything like the ones I've been the youngsters are around 80! get involved in the forums, there are often meeting's so go along to them or organize one :)

Ah its it really that bad lol?

I'll get on that forum. Living near Cambridge there are some decent places for photography around

Clubs vary lots are dominated by the older generation but with the increasing popularity of photography as a hobby more and more younger people are getting involved do the club scene is beginning to change. Pop along to your local one and see what it's like you might be surprised!

I agree with the above statement. They recently 'rebooted' a local club that was down to a handful of elderly members and about to close. They applied for and got a lottery grant on the understanding that would engage with wider community. They have gone from strength to strength are probably the largest club now in the district with the youngest average membership so it might be worth making enquiries about the clubs I your area. A quick look at their webpage might give you a few pointers.

I'll have a look.
But of a silly question. But what exactly am I looking for? Would it be better to look/ask locally for something like this than Google?

Good to see is not just full of older people.

I'm in my second term of a year 1 photography course. Although there's been quite a bit of work, it's been great talking to other people on my own level with the same sense of interest and enthusiasm. Evening classes are a bit limited for photographic opportunities, particularly during the winter months so we've actually meet outside reminding each other what we've learnt so far. I can't wait for year 2 already :)

I'd like to join a photography club, but i want to avoid the "Know it alls" and the techy ****** wavers for the time being.

ill have a look, dunno whether to email and ask about the clientele :p
i check out one with pics.. hasten to say.. not many my age . ie, 0

Mixed age group is not a bad thing. Many older photographers will have worked with film and have some great techniques at the camera they can pass one. Conversely, you might have some modern techniques to mutually share. Give it ago. Nothing to loose.
