Hi, I want to make a simple web site and host it. Never done anything like that before. I am fairly good on computers, what software is best for the beginner to web disign etc ? I have frontpage somewhere.

I am with wanadoo/orange whatever there called at the moment, just curious as to how to best get started making a web site, can you also find a web site that you like, somehow save it and then make alterations to it and make it then your own, would that be easier ?

thank you.

Dreamweaver is great to design your website as you can just create it how it will look.

You can get the code to a website if you like it, however wouldn't that be infringment of copyright?

You require a host. If Wanadoo/Orange provide you with some freespace, use that to practice on. When you've outgrown that and have learnt HTML and CSS, then I would consider moving to a more professional host.

Also, saving somebodys website and making alterations to it, and then calling it your own may be easier, but it's called plagiarism. Don't use other peoples websites as a base for your own, it's their site, it's their code, it's their framework. Not yours.

Starting from scratch will let you learn more anyway.

If you only want to get one single site up and running, don't bother learning HTML, CSS, HMSO or RSVP. Get yourself a package such as the already mentioned Dreamweaver and let it do the work. There are several other packages which do much the same and each is available in 'trial' form so that you can decide which suits your needs best.

Having said that, if you require a professional site I suggest you get a professional to build it for you. Alternatively, if you have the time and patience you could consider learning to hand code.
