Chaps,

Just got my new build up and running and I have found that at stock the fans are very noisy and I kinda wanna make it a bit quieter.

Spec:

Lian Li V1000 Plus Case
Asus A8N-SLi Premium NF4
AMD X2 4400+
Zalman CNPS7000B-CU Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler
Seagate Barracuda 200gb SATA HDD
etc
etc

What ways can I make this less noisy without costing any more money?

I notice the Zalman comes with a fan control module, is this worth fitting or can the fans be controlled by another means?

Obviously I dont mind the fans being noisy during larger apps/games etc just want it less noisy when watching films etc.

Any help would be excellent...I have yet to install any of the SW etc from the mobo, i.e. I have purely got the system runing and got latest Nvidia drivers from the web instead of the CD.

You could try replacing the stock fans with quieter 120mm alternatives like Akasa Amber Quiet ones. Have one on the back of my Shuttle and you can't hear any noise, just the sound of air :p

If you meant absolutely without spending any more money, then the fan controller normally helps as you can turn it all the way down when not playing games etc...

Yeah I dont wanna spend any money at all.

I'm guessing its the Zalman making all the noise at the moment, so will try the controller and see if I can quieten it.

PSU is fairly quiet also, its an Enermax Lib 620W.

I would be suprised if it was that CPU cooler making the most noise...have you got Cool n Quiet enabled on your BIOS?

You could also try modding the case fans to 7v, thats free :)

You can use speedfan to control some of the fan headers on your board.

The first step it to find out whats making the noise. To do this, temporarily slow down or un-plug some fans and listen to see whats making a noise.

Looking at that spec i would say its the graphics, as the rest (chipset, cpu) look ok.

What have you got in the way of casefans?

My casefans are all standard in the V1000 Plus, although I have not yet added the additional CPU cooling fan that comes with the extra "Plus" version of the case.

Tried turning the Zalman down with the controller, and it runs not a lot quieter, so presuming its something else, maybe graphics card as you say....

Cool N Quiet is enabled in the BIOS.

Try stopping some case fans with your finger and see if it helps, try the same with the graphics card. Theres always something thats louder than everything else, and it gets more difficult to find out what it is as things get quieter.

Replacing fans is probably unnecessary , but using some y-cables you can probably attach most of them to the zalman fanmate that came with your cpu cooler and lower the speed of them.
