Hello, can anyone help me out here with something.

I have a Drobo Mini thunderbolt with a single 1TB SSD inside of it. I thought it would be possible to use carbon copy cloner to copy my iMac HDD to the Drobo and then boot from it upon start up. After it finished copying it was featured in my boot device options within settings. I selected the Drobo and restarted. Upon restart I just had a dark gray missing folder icon flash.

Bringing up the boot menu upon start up with the option key doesn't display the drobo.

To boot from the Drobo it needs to be connected to the mac via firewire or USB.

My understanding is that Drobo are working on a future update to enable booting via thunderbolt.

It is a dangerous game to be booting off an external disk permanently.

Recovery yes, day-to-day no!!!

Good point - I clone my drive weekly to an external fireware drive so that if I were to lose my MBP or the SSD died I could recover quickly from TM backups.
