Making the Corsair 540 quieter

Hi all.

I am still very much in love with my Corsair 540 case. It looks so unique and was one of the easiest cases to work on in terms of cable management.

However I would like to reduce the fan noise a little more.

I got rid of the stock fans for x3 Corsair AF120mm fans on 12V at the front intake.

x1 AF 140mm exhaust at the rear with a 7V reducer.

H100 on the roof with x2 SP120 Quiet Editions.

I've tried running the x3 AF 120s at the front with 7V reducers. It's certainly a little quieter but nothing drastic. I want them to be at 12V ideally to maintain positive pressure.

Should I perhaps go back to the stock x2 140mm fans that came with the case and run them at 7V?

What have other 540 owners done?

I think to get a great deal lower noise from the fans/case you will have to spend a decent amount on fans and possibly a controller as well. Noise Blockers are supposed to be fantastic but very expensive.. :eek:
 
Aerocool DS Editions are insanely quiet and push enough air, in my experience. Not very scientific but: just by placing my hand next to them, I could definitely feel slightly more force than with the 540 stock fans on 12v.

Used them on a H105 too, and on i7-4790K 4.4GHz load (in a warmer country in summer) stress tests, max temp was 68C. At the RPM the stock fans would require to keep it at 68C, they'd already be noisy, and full RPM would just knock off say 5C at the expense of jet engine noise. No thanks. Maybe for someone intending to overclock a lot they wouldn't be ideal. But at 4.4GHz you're already at the average sweet spot really in terms of voltage/heat-to-performance, unless you custom watercool and can hit close to 5GHz.

Recommended them to the buyer of a build after reading this review, and neither of us was disappointed:


The fan included with the Corsair H60 is very similar to those included with the H80i and H100i and is loosely based on the design of the new Corsair Air Series SP120 fans. It doesn’t spin quite as fast though, topping out at 2,000 RPM. At this speed it can push 54 CFM of air and can generate a static pressure of 2.36 mm H20.

As we discussed earlier, the 12cm AEROCOOL DS fan spins at only 1,200 RPM at 12V, but it still manages to push 54.8 CFM at close to half the maximum rated speed of the Corsair unit.
