Well, I've come to the conclusion tonight that my MacBook Pro is going to be my main computer from now on.

I'd been saving wildly for a new PC, but to be honest, I'm going to spend too much money on it. And 2 months (if I'm lucky) down the line it's going to be out of date. And I'll want to update it again. Something of an addiction. A bad one. :D

So, I have a few things I need to clear up before I finally do go and put the nails in the decision - and I'm hoping the brains of your fine selves can help me out.

I've identified a few potential things but if you think there may be more or wish to warn me of any, feel free.

1) My MBP has an X1600 (128mb) - am I likely to encounter any problems with going external on a 1920x1200 monitor? (24" Inch, looking at the Dell HC 2407, specifically)

2) Any potential issues with the USBs/Card Reader on the monitor or pretty straight forward?

3) I prefer to have a clean install of OS X with the 'important' stuff' based on external hard drives. Am I likely to face any perfomance issues?

4) I currently have my SATA-II hard drives from my PC. I had planned to install these into my new rig (as they contain important stuff) - but will it be as easy as buying a hard drive USB caddy and taking the information off them from within OS X? I understand OS X can read NTFS, just not write to it.

Think that's about it for now (unless you can make the new Apple keyboard come into stock :( ) . A lot of the things are common questions which I have looked into online - but would prefer a second, third or fourth opinion on them.

Thanks very much. :)

Another option is to go for the firewire 800 - that gives better performance for attached HDs from what I've read.

Might be a good idea actually, what with how many USB ports I'm planning to use. :)

The Dell has 4 (I think) built into the monitor, so if they worked fine I would be alright for the other bits and pieces.
