I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 using the Wubi instaler on a new HDD.

My question is how do I make it bootable without it requiring Windows? The HDD is going into a new machine so it needs to be able to boot on its own.

I have tried installing MBR but that hasn't worked at all and now it says my MBR on the linux drive is corrupted.

Because the new machine has no optical drive and I don't have a USB device that I could connect up to install off and although there is an optical drive on my Windows machine I have no disks to burn an installer on to.

Would it be easier just to go out and get some disks? Probably, but surely there is a way I can do it like this???

I'm sure there is. I know my way around Ubuntu but I am a comparative Linux noob. Easier to get hold of some media. You can just use the DVD drive from your Windows box to install then put it back. Pendrive installs work a treat too.

Even Tesco sell blank DVDs
