Making WMP play 5.1 avi's as stereo?

Right, I have a problem, if I have an avi file that is AC3/5.1 due to me only having a 2.1 system I can't ever hear the voices. I use VLC to play it due to being about to manually select stereo but I prefer media player.

Does anyone know how I would go about selecting/forcing stereo output for WMP?
