Maldives….. which site?

Does anyone know of any of the Maldives resorts which:

Have villas with a second bedroom, or a sofa bed in a lounge if not?

Have water villas which allow an under 18 to stay in them? (It seems fairly standard to say only over 18's in them, which I thought at first was due to them being intended to be romantic, but seeing the same rules in more family friendly resorts, I'm wondering now if it's an H&S thing.)

We've always booked through Simply Maldives. They're usually competitive on price and you can just tell them your budget/preferences and they'll give you some options. You might struggle if that £4.5k includes flights/food/drink though.

I think a lot of resorts will allow older children in water villas if you ask them directly. For younger kids honestly it's a) dangerous and b) annoying for the guests in neighbouring villas.

Cheers. Which resort was that?
Joy Island. Its also only a 45 minute speedboat rather than a seaplane so if youve got an early flight you can stay there rather stay near the airport. Our flight back was 7.30am

I think the majority do the waiver thing. You wouldn't be booking one if you've got smaller kids or they cant swim etc

We stayed at the Park Hyatt resort and there were a few kids knocking about. There were some inner island villas so assume they stayed in those rather than the on water bungalows. We had one of those and yeah, be a nightmare trying to keep kids from falling (or jumping) in. Zero edge protection. Some of the currents are pretty strong too, especially when the wind gets up.

Is it me, but the water bungalows seem very close together? How much sound/vision privacy is there?

The images look simply idylic!

On the previous occasion we went, we stayed in a water bungalow at Komandoo. They do look close together from map views:

But all I can say is that we never even heard anyone either side of us.

We stayed in Veligandu it was the best holiday I've ever had. Whilst normally I'm more into adventure like exploring Cuba or getting lost in Rio, or eating my way across Malaysia. But for a relaxing and pure peace nothing has come close.

I thought we'd hit the jackpot then!
A two-bedroomed water villa that allows children to stay in it?
Perfect.
Then I did an experimental booking, and it came out at £30k for a fortnight. :D

Was there in 95 was much more basic. Basic villa no AC no WiFi. Probably 50% divers on the island and plane. Stunning sea life though. Was back there in 2001 and it was already much more luxurious.

Unrecognisable these days. Was planning to go back when the kids were bigger. But might be priced out of it now.

There are so many resorts now - there’s ones for every budget. The more you can spend the better though!

There's so much choice in the Maldives, we've been twice in the last few years. It's not cheap though and you might struggle to get a week AI in Feb for your budget tbh.

Check the location of your resort and the transfer situation carefully - the last place we went was very nice, but it was 2 flights (VIE-DXB, DXB-MLE) then a domestic flight, then a speedboat. That was alright for me, but the wife had checked out after the second flight.

If you pick a resort with a decent house reef it will be everything you imagined. Like someone dumped a massive aquarium directly into the ocean - rays, squid, sharks, turtles, fish, coral, clams.... it's genuinely amazing.

First time we flew into London then went on a crammed charter 7hrs+1hr stop +5hrs+Boat 2.5hrs. I think it took 24hrs to recover. Think the 1hr stop was in Bahrain and it was very basic. Like a bad canteen.
Plane actually had a problem on take off and aborted on the runway in London, came in 2hrs no AC on aircraft delay until they checked the issue then took off. The whole thing was like an endurance marathon.

2nd time we went schedule flights with Emirates with a few hours stop in Dubai for shopping. Then Sea Plane. On the way back, we had an overnight in Male Airport Hotel. It was longer journey but we didn't arrive wrecked.
That was amazing trip. The sea plane had a few pickups and at one point the sea plan tied up at a raft in the middle of the ocean waiting for a boat to arrive. We all just chilled out in the sun.

Again that was a long time ago.
