Malicious software tool

Guys,

Real simple one I cant seem to find an awnser on.

Is it advisable to install Malicious software tool on WIndows Server 2003/2008?

The servers all ready have AV protection etc. A few guys ive spoken to say no dont dont do it but MS say no where not to do it?

If you are not browsing the internet from that server then you have no reason to install it so dont it will just use up resources

Really I thought it just runs a quick scan and cleans anything it finds?

I wasn't aware it was a background service I thought it was run on demand.

But how do you think these nastys get on the server in the first place from browsing the web! If you do not browse the internet on that server then you have no need for it

network shares/usb/firewire ?

My opinion you should install it, the only safe computer is something that's not connected to any network and is 6ft under surrounded by concrete and has no physical access by man or woman

There will always be a what if moment and you can never be to cautious especially in this day and age. As stated above there are 101 ways that nasties get onto computers, my view is best to take precautions.

No one apart from the IT department should have direct access to the server.

Network share
If a user put's something dodgy on a network share it would only effect the machine it was executed on not the server.

USB/Firewire
The server would be locked away in a server room so joe blogs can't insert a usb stick. If a member of the IT deparment did this and it some how got somthing on it then they shouldn't be employeed in the first place.

Fair enough installing it on user machines but it's not a necessity on servers IMO
