We are thinking about going to Malta for a week in September or maybe December over Christmas.

It looks nice in pictures and reviews but know nothing about Malta really, other than my grand parents used to go about 30 years ago :D Has anyone been recently?

Ideally looking for a reasonable B&B hotel with walking distance to restaurantes, bars and shops. Close by beach would be nice too

Covid wise Malta seems to not be an issue (at the moment) We don't want to have to spend a week or 2 in quarantine!

Budge wise, I would say ~£500-£700 pp for hotel, flights and weeks spending money

Take a look at the Spain situation and guage from that if you may or may not enjoy two weeks quarantine at the drop of a hat if the circumstances change. Wouldn't really be worth going anywhere before the end of this year or middle of next year in my opinion.

We did think this but surely places would not be open for tourism if there was a high chance of going into lockdown again? Some European gigs are even re-opening towards December and early next year

We've booked for Gozo in Nadur in October. An island just north of Malta.
It looks close enough to Comino and a short ferry to Malta for a couple of days

There is a cancellation policy so can cancel before the end of September at no cost. If Covid hits then we cancel. It's cost £365 for 7 nights B&B in a double room and £100 pp for flights from Manchester.

Travel insurance says this, which means i should be fine.

"COVID 19 cover is available as long as your trip was booked when there was no government advice in place against travel to your destination." which there was not

There is also free cancellation on the b&b booking
