Guys

I need a little help. I have some possible malware infection on one of my pcs currently. I run 2 and a laptop in a home network on BT broadband and have noticed a slowdown today in performance on one of them.

I followed all of the usual steps of turning one pc off and then using the other and have found that it is my main pc that is at fault. When the other pcs are plugged into the router I can use them fine (one connects to a VPN for work) but when the main pc is plugged in it slows the network to a crawl.

The last time this happened, to cut a long story short, i installed Malware bytes antimalware and that nuked the malware off my system.

I have done the same thing today and it wont work. I have looked in to the system tray and checked for new processes that i didnt understand and I have googled a few of them. They are all legit or so it seems.

In the last 48 hours the only two things I have done to the PC are download something through Steam (a new game update) and install a new pair of headphones. The headphones drivers were installed fine and the steam update was successful but i havent been anywhere else on the net. I am lost as to what to do because my Antivirus (win defender) and also my Antimalware program (I have the all in one bundle with virus checker in also) cannot find anything wrong but I know when I go to BTs speed checker website (http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/) I am getting a ping of over 100 on my main pc.

Repeating the process on my 2nd pc gives me a ping of 40. So i know there is a problem in there but I am not savvy enough to know how to solve it.

Any help/guidance/advice would be welcomed!

The utility TCPVIew will show you what processes have established a connection to the web, and how much data they have transferred, run it and focus on the ones with the largest data over a period of time - That will narrow things down.

Use Malware Bytes in addition to a 2nd opinion such as SUPER Antispyware. One will always find things the other does not.

Trend Online also have a web based scanner which you can run through your browser. Ideally I'd run all from Safe Mode (with networking), so any services associated with malware won't be loaded at boot/logon.

if i had malware on my PC i would format and re install windows, only way to truly know its been removed and will not come back as sometimes by the time all the scans have been done and time looking online its quicker just to re install windows as it only takes 20 mins or so

When you say "it won't work", what do you mean? Does it find nothing, error, or what?

Maybe in the past, but really its not needed.
if its gone its gone.
if it does came back. look at the way you use the pc.
