Hi there, I couldn't see another more relevant category so hopefully this is the right place.

So my sons computer has started being spammed on the right hand side with messages saying his computer is infected and that he needs to click to get rid of it. Its obviously some malware of some lind but ive done a fair few things, from quick scans, full scans, malware scans (all on windows own system) but they keep saying they havent picked anything up.

I then thought a restore would work as it only started yesterday so I rolled it back a week but sure enough its straight back again.

Is there recommended software I should use that's well known to work well and should get rid of it?

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried looking at the Notification settings, he could have just said yes to a website to allow notifications

It's under System/Notifications and look at "Notifications from apps and other senders", just turn off the ones you don't recognise

It's this

In chrome or edge there will be a site that has notifications allowed and it's being abused to send scam notifications. It's a simple fix to turn them off.

My mistake, you're right its in the browser settings not the system

e.g. for Chrome (From AI)
  • Open Google Chrome and click the three dots (top right) > Settings.
  • Click Privacy and security on the left menu, then select Site settings.
  • Click on Notifications under the Permissions section.
  • Scroll down to Allowed to send notifications.
  • Click the three dots next to the website you want to remove and click Remove (or Block if you want to ensure it never asks again).

That fixed it, thanks very much to you and the others that nailed it.
