Windows Defender is included with all versions of Windows Vista and is available to download for genuine copies of Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later.

Is there a portable version of malwarebytes for machines that are already compromised and therefore won't allow it to install?

Right, I finally got the system clean, but it was Microsofts tool, not Malwarebytes that deleted the offending file in the end, Malwarebytes kept missing it and therefore it was reinfecting the system on bootup.
